Our purpose is to deliver a dynamic range of welfare and lifestyle benefits and services to Royal Australian Navy members.   Navy Canteens, a not for profit and corporate Commonwealth entity, operates food and beverage operations at Naval establishments throughout Australia. In addition to operating canteens, cafes and bars, Navy Canteens operates three holiday parks, an online merchandise store and an entertainment ticketing service.

We are currently looking for an experienced and professional Accounts Officer to join our team based at Campbell Park Offices in Canberra.  Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will assist in the financial management of Navy Canteens operations.

What you will be doing:

  • Performing full function Accounts Payable and Receivable at a standalone capacity
  • Matching, batching, coding and processing invoices
  • Preparing and arranging payment to suppliers
  • Internal and external liaison with suppliers / vendors
  • Maintaining the billing system
  • Generating invoices and account statements
  • Performing account reconciliations
  • Maintaining accounts receivable files and records
  • Producing monthly financial and management reports
  • Investigating and resolving any irregularities or enquiries
  • Assisting in general financial management and analysis

You will bring with you:

  • At least 12 months experience in a similar role
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Professional presentation and manner
  • Ability to manage a diverse range of duties
  • Excellent communication skills both on the phone and in person
  • Ability to problem solve with a capacity to work through new processes
  • Experience with accounting systems (Xero is highly desirable).
  • Experience working in a similar role in the hospitality industry (desirable).
  • Experience using the Microsoft suite of products.

Due to security requirements you will need to be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident, and be able to obtain a Defence Baseline Security Clearance.

About you:

A Finance Officer who:

  • has a minimum of 1 to 2 years’ experience in an accounts role
  • has high level Microsoft Office skills, in particular, Microsoft Excel

  • highly desirable: accounting qualifications or studying towards an accounting and/or bookkeeping qualification

Role:

Reporting to our Finance Manager, this role will see you focus on:

  • accounts payable
  • accounts receivable
  • bank reconciliations
  • assistance with some Payroll related tasks
  • other finance tasks as directed by the Finance Manager

Grosvenor is a management consulting firm with offices in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane.

Our Finance Officer is to be based in Canberra working 2 - 3 days per week. Working with and reporting to our Finance Manager, this role will see you support colleagues in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane as well as working with external clients.

The role of the Chief Financial Officer will be critical to the ongoing success of the Group as well as playing a key role in ensuring sustainable growth into the future.  Whilst working at a hands-on level, the ideal candidate will also be able to provide the Directors with high level financial analysis and advice.

Specifically you will be responsible for the strategic and day to day financial management of the Group including:
  • Preparation of the budget and monthly group management reports including feasibility and analysis of project and group performance;
  • Preparation of the annual financial statements;
  • Ongoing management of cash flows including liaison with banks in regards to lending and financing requirements;
  • Management of the FMIS, policies and procedures and the financial management controls framework;
  • Ensuring compliance with taxation and other legislative requirements including liaising with external accountants; and
  • Oversight of the AP/AR and Payroll functions
To be successful in this unique opportunity, you will be CA/CPA qualified and have strong experience in a senior financial management role.  Experience within the construction and property sectors either directly or through your work within a Chartered Accounting environment will be highly regarded.

The ACT Disability Aged and Carer Advocacy Service (ADACAS) is a human-rights focused organisation, which will celebrate its 30th year of operation in 2021. ADACAS currently employs around 25 staff.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Accounts staff are primarily responsible for management of ADACAS finances, up to financial management reporting, under the supervision of the Finance Officer, who in turn support the Business Manager in many of the operational functions that promote the smooth running of the office. Communication skills will be important as liaising with external parties including suppliers, and on-going internal correspondence is heavily relied upon.

ADACAS’ client base include people with disability, people experiencing mental ill-health, older people, and carers, therefore a professional mien is essential to this role. As ADACAS is a community organisation, developing a basic knowledge of the community sector will also be required.

Accounts staff will seek to improve the quality of their work through an ethos of continuous improvement via reflective practice, training and education provided internally and externally to ADACAS.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounts Payable (AP)

  • Check supplier invoices and expense claims for accuracy, appropriateness, and correct account coding.
  • Ensure that invoices are correctly approved for payment.
  • Enter in all AP invoices and processing weekly/fortnightly payment runs.
  • Maintain AP ledger ensuring no long overdue amounts.
  • Point-of-contact for general suppliers’ enquiries.
  • Maintain appropriate hard copy files of all current period documentation and archive previous period documentation.

Accounts Receivable

  • Receipt all payments received through MYOB.
  • Manage debtors (mainly NDIS) and follow up outstanding money owed.
  • Maintain AR ledger ensuring no long overdue amounts.
  • Maintain appropriate hard copy files of all current period documentation and archive previous period documentation.

Accounts Assistance

  • Support the Business Manager/Finance Officer in completing bank reconciliations and simple month-end journals.
  • Review accuracy of information required for all financial transactions on an ongoing basis.
  • Where applicable, assist with analysis of data to identify efficiencies, cost controls and improved business practices.
