RESIDENTIAL MENTORS (KIMBERLEY)

Wesley College Melbourne, a Uniting Church school with a rich tradition spanning 153 years, is a diverse, dynamic, coeducational learning community with more than 3,350 students aged between 3 and 18 years across 3 main campuses.

Born out of a partnership between Wesley College Melbourne (the College) and the Bunuba community of the Kimberley in Western Australia, the school's vision is to bring about positive change through education.

The Studio School unique educational approach bridges the cultural divide between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal Australia and delivers a learning experience across two locations, that promotes two-way learning.  Students live in residence at the school in both Melbourne and the Kimberley.

The Studio School provides new pathways for Aboriginal students to access mainstream education and for the College students in Year 10 in Melbourne, the Studio School offers an opportunity to live and learn side by side with and from Australia's first people.

In a positive step forward in the growth and development of the Yiramalay/Wesley Studio School, a number of new positions within the school are available for application.  Additionally, we have current positions that are being vacated by staff moving onto exciting new opportunities and new locations. 

The Residential Mentor is accountable for the day to day operation of a pair of residences and overnight sleepovers.  This includes providing pastoral care and supervision of students in their residences, and mentoring assistance and support in and around the site during the day. Residential mentors will be supporting predominantly aboriginal students, but also students from a variety of backgrounds, with daily living and wellbeing activities. 

Residential Mentors will require strong interpersonal skills, initiative and well-developed organisational skills.  Empathy with students in residence and the ability to relate well to aboriginal adolescents is critical.

This is a full-time role has a rotating roster across 7 days which includes overnight stays and weekends. The role is fixed term initially.
