The Brisbane Youth Education and Training Centre is a Department of Education school operating inside the Brisbane Youth Detention Centre at Wacol. About the Role

The suitable applicant would require the following skills/knowledge:

  • Technical knowledge of server hardware and configuration, and networking peripherals
  • A high or good level understanding of PC desktop and laptop systems, Apple iPads and printer support

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • A strong client focus
  • Understanding of Local Area Networks
  • Experience using remote support tools to support servers and workstations remotely, within the school environment

A mandatory requirement of this role is:

TO2 appointees must have possession of a diploma qualification relevant to the tasks outlined, from a recognised tertiary institution or qualification which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Department of Education or delegate is acceptable.

The successful applicant will be appointed to the TO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the TO3 level following assessment by a selection panel on specific criteria as outlined in Part 4, 12.7 (c) and 12.8 (b) of the Queensland Public Service Officers and Other Employees Award - State 2015 (PDF) ( http://www.qirc.qld.gov.au/qirc/resources/pdf/awards/q/queensland_public_service_officers_010317v2.pdf )

  • The successful applicant will be required to attain the DoE Orange Card School Administrator (OC SA) certification to access the school network, enabling the officer to perform high level support tasks including server technologies.  The content of the course contains aspects of supporting the DoE Managed Operating Environment (MOE) as well as Government legislation.  This course is only available within the DoE network.

When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.

The Opportunity

The Brisbane Broncos have a special commitment to Indigenous communities and are playing an active role in Closing the Gap in Indigenous disadvantage.  As part of our Beyond the Broncos Academy Program, we are working across regions in southern Queensland and Northern NSW to deliver mentoring and employment program initiatives focused on providing opportunity to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.

Key Responsibilities

Working in the Redlands region, your role will be to support our Beyond the Broncos Girls Academy Program through the provision of mentoring and support services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students to assist in engagement, retention and academic progress of students in years 7 to 12.

Specifically, you will:

  • Provide case management support to indigenous students to improve school attendance and retention.
  • Work with key stakeholders and liaise with school personnel to deliver Beyond the Broncos outcomes.
  • Develop individual case management plans and provide support services to participants including careering planning, goal setting, mind mapping and progress monitoring against the plan.
  • Develop relationships and liaise with local stakeholders and resources in the region, connecting participants and families with available resources.
  • Keep informed of local indigenous community, education and employment issues and activities to identify emerging trends.
  • Provide timely and accurate reporting on activities and results.
  • Ensure all administrative tasks are completed to a high standard.

Key Criteria

To be considered for the role, candidates must address the following:

  • Enthusiastic professional with relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in
    Education, Youth or Community Service.
  • A qualification in Career Guidance and Community Services or Youth Work and experience in a similar role is desirable.
  • Previous recent experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth with current knowledge of the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and an established relationship or ability to engage effectively and seek advice.
  • Knowledge of the current education, employment and social challenges faced by young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with strong administrative and reporting skills.
  • Strong sense of respect for confidentiality involving participants and team members.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.
  • Current Blue Card (Paid).

Working in an out-posted position, the successful candidate will have a proven ability to work autonomously, take ownership of the role and have a team oriented approach.  Critical will be your ability to motivate others towards achieving goals and a strong sense of respect for confidentiality involving participants and team members.

Your Opportunity

Home education is an education option available to Queensland parents and guardians when making decisions about education for their children. The Home Education Unit facilitates the registration process for children to be home educated.

As the Senior Education Officer you will provide assistance to parents who are considering registering their child for home education or who currently have their child registered for home education, to understand their statutory obligations. You will also make recommendations to the Director-General (or delegate) regarding statutory decisions on applications for initial and continuing registration for home education.

Your Role

The position require experienced educators with an ability to apply their professional expertise to a regulatory environment. Based in Central Office (Brisbane CBD), you will work as part of a high-performing team who are committed to providing quality regulatory services in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

As the Senior Education Officer you will have responsibility for the following:

  • Provide information on home education, and expert technical advice on home education legislation to parents considering registering their child for home education or who currently have their child registered for home education.
  • Assess home education registration applications and make recommendations to the Director-General (or delegate) on the suitability of planned educational programs to meet the requirements of legislation.
  • Assess the progress of each home educated student by assessing annual reports provided by parents to ensure compliance with legislation.
  • Liaise with families to enable them to meet procedural and standard conditions of home education registration.
  • Build and sustain supportive relationships between home educating families and other stakeholders.
  • Support the continued improvement in provision of services and information to home educating families, ensuring the provision of a high level of educational achievement.
  • Contribute to the development and review of work practices and strategies to meet team and organisational goals, and ensure that the administration of home education complies with legislated requirements.
