A Developments Engineer is required within a north eastern suburbs local government organisation to provide efficient and effective engineering development and subdivision assessment. You will ensure that civil infrastructure assets are provided to meet the current and future demands of the municipality and the needs of community and council. You will provide timely and appropriate response to external and internal stakeholders relating to civil infrastructure requests and assess and approve planning referrals.

To be successful you will have extensive experience in civil engineering, and prior local government experience is highly desirable. You will have knowledge of civil engineering investigation, design and standards in a municipal environment, and knowledge of the Local Govt Act, Road Management Act, Planning Act, other relevant statutory Acts & Regulations. You will have strong knowledge of subdivisional, planning and development procedures and statutory requirements for developments. You will be able to liaise with a range of stakeholders and have excellent communication and negotiation skills. You will have a degree in Civil engineering or equivalent qualification. You will also hold a current Victorian Driver’s License.

An Environmental Health Officer is required to monitor and enforce standards of environmental and public health within a south western suburbs local government organisation. This is an ideal short term opportunity to increase your local government experience predominantly working from home. You will conduct brief site visits and inspections when required. You will examine and approve applications, plans, food registration, renewals and transfers under the Food Act as well as advise the community and commercial operators of guidelines and statutory obligations. You will assist in providing immunisation programs, investigate infectious diseases as required and conduct water sampling for waterways, drains, swimming pools and spas.

To be successful you will have extensive knowledge of public health legislation and a Degree of Applied Science (Environmental Health) or equivalent qualification as approved by the Australian Institute of Environmental Health and relevant associated Legislation. You will have relevant experience in a similar role, ideally within local council and eligibility to be a member of the Australian Institute of Environmental Health. You will have exceptional communication skills and well-developed computer skills with experience in specific Environmental Health Services software You will also hold a current Victorian Driver’s License.

Major Road Projects Victoria has appointed the McConnell Dowell Decmil Joint Venture as contractor for the Mordialloc Freeway Project.

The Project

The 9-kilometre freeway will connect the Mornington Peninsula Freeway at Springvale Road in Aspendale Gardens to the Dingley Bypass in Dingley Village. The Freeway will improve travel times and ease congestion in Melbourne’s south east region, providing safer, more reliable journeys. The project will also give heavy vehicles an alternative route, provide better access to key employment areas, and promote active transport options with an off-road shared walking and cycling path. We commenced construction in October 2019 and anticipate completing the project late-2021. For more information about the Mordialloc Freeway project, please visit roadprojects.vic.gov.au.

The Position

This is an exciting opportunity for a Project Engineer to join a fast paced and well-established team. 

The Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate complex project engineering assignments entailing technical specifications and the preparation of detailed plans.
  • Undertake cost controlling, estimating, budgeting, forecasting, sub-contract claims review and commercial negotiation activities.
  • Ensure Project Safety Management Plans obligations are implemented and met.
  • Act as a trouble shooter and ensure any potential problems are resolved or alerted to senior management.
  • Maintain and ensure all work is of high standard and compliant with quality control frameworks.
  • Demonstrate and provide a high level of customer service to project team, client representatives, sub-contractors, foreman, consultants and community.
  • Measure, record and report on project progress against program allocated work
  • Lead and participate in pre-start and toolbox meetings as required

The Requirements

  • A degree in Civil Engineering or Construction (post-graduate studies are an advantage)
  • Unlimited Australian work rights (citizen or permanent resident visa)
  • Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience
  • Background in Tier1 or mid-Tier contracting companies on major Victorian road projects
